What We’re Thankful For

With Thanksgiving celebrations nearly here, the BPRC steering team has so very much for which to be grateful.

Yes, the Iowa Utilities Board hearing is still underway and will likely continue for another two weeks. But now is the time to celebrate the contributions of countless Iowans committed to protecting our soil and water, landowners’ rights, and future generations:

  • To all those who attended the Dakota Access public meetings last winter and raised their concerns, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who attended the Coalition’s first meeting organizing meeting last December, and we say, “Thank you.”
  • To the 27 organizations that make up our coalition and who have stood together as a force to be reckoned with, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have written letters to the Iowa Utilities Board voice their opposition to the pipeline, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have attended rallies and other public events opposing the pipeline, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have written letters to the editor protesting the pipeline and informing others in their communities, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all the newspaper editors who have given our opposition fair coverage, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have contributed finances to help underwrite legal expenses and other coalition expenses, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who created and have maintained our website, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have Tweeted or posted Coalition-related messages to bring the pipeline fight to friends and family, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who have worked to develop pipeline opposition legal strategy and prepared for and are participating in the IUB hearing, we say, “thank you.”
  • To the Boone County Board of Supervisors who passed a resolution opposing the pipeline and to the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors who passed a resolution calling for greater financial protection, we say, “Thank you.”
  • To all those who came to Boone for the Iowa Utilities Board day of public comments on November 12, we say, “Thank you.”

To all those who have contributed their time and talent in so many other ways, we say, “Thank you.”

And, last but not least, to all those who remain committed to giving in so many ways to guide Iowa toward a truly safe and sustainable future, we say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” We’re looking forward to continuing our work together.

Wishing all a joyful Thanksgiving,

The Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition Steering Committee
