Voices Against the Pipeline – Resistance to Pipelines, Not Just in Iowa

The following is a letter to the editor we have received here at the Bakken Pipeline Resistance Coalition authored by Brenda Brink. Her letter shares her experience of participating in the Midwest Tar Sands Resistance March in St. Paul, Minnesota:
Dear Editor:
The recent 5000-strong Midwest Tar Sands Resistance March in St. Paul on June 6 confirms what many Iowans think-  the Fossil Fuel Industry with its climate, community and environmental destruction is on its way out.
Some marchers held signs protesting pipeline use of eminent domain in their states and the poor track record of spill clean-up. We held signs protesting the risky hazardous liquid pipeline proposed for Iowa.   Many then spoke at the rally about their personal experience of horrible treatment from profiteering industry representatives and contractors in both tar sands extraction and refinery areas.
As I marched, I marveled at the 5000 people who spent their Saturday objecting to this taxpayer-subsidized dead-end technology.  Yes, 5000 of us from the Heartland.
We have clean technology that provides good jobs and a good future for all of us.  People are waking up.
